Einaudi's Piano by Candlelight

Following last year’s sold-out Edinburgh Fringe show, award-winning British pianist Matthew Shiel returns to lead you towards musical enlightenment. Japanese anime Spirited Away, Ludovico Einaudi’s contemplative piano pieces and Philip Glass’s soundtrack to the Academy award-winning film The Hours meet Japanese Zen stories, alongside digital animations designed by acclaimed Shanghai artist and Disney illustrator Emma Yitong Shen. Beautiful and life-affirming music is interwoven with Japanese storytelling, inspired by the wisdom and philosophy of Zen Buddhism to create a hypnotic and profound musical experience. Our concerts are rated: 'The audience was indeed spirited away... meditative' ★★★★★ (EdinburghGuide.com). ★★★★★ (CorrBlimey.com). 'Ripping good yarn' ★★★★★ (BingeFringe.com).

Shiel’s playing is expressive—he shapes his hands and forearms beautifully—and his physicality is fluid and evocative. - Kym Clayton, The Barefoot Review
