“Ekhono Kritodas” (Still a slave) by renowned Bangladeshi writer Abdullah Al Mamun is a powerful play focused on poverty, hunger and post-independence(Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971) class inequality. It shows how, even after freedom, a large portion of society remains trapped in deprivation. Through Bakka Mia, the play portrays endless hunger that turns people into “slaves” of survival. It highlights how independence brought comfort for some, while others remained in slums and darkness. Tuhurun’s forced sale of her body reflects the extreme poverty and exploitation rooted in hunger. The play presents a stark picture of the divide between rich and poor and the harsh realities of social oppression.

Fazlur Rahman Babu is a Bangladeshi actor and singer, active since 1978 when he began with Baishakhi Natya Ghosthi, later joining Aranyak Natyadal in 1983. He entered television in 1991 with Kazi Nazrul Islam’s Mrittu Khuda and gained recognition through Itikatha. Babu has acted in many films, including Daruchini Dip, Monpura, Fagun Haway, and Bishwoshundori. He has won five National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor and one for Best Comic Role.
