Cabinet
The loose interpretative structure of this presentation considers encounters with art that elicit joy and wonder to incite empathic responses towards difference and new ways of thinking about place, cultural narratives and memory.
The work-in-progress show of the fab workshop X Fringe residency are inspired by Wunderkammer, which translates as room of wonder, and Altarini - the intimate street-altar/ shrine cabinets displayed throughout Naples. The new works stress the process of questioning rather than striving to arrive at a polished argument that is put on display. They create a platform to present alternative narratives and non-Western discourses that plot new relations between artworks, people, histories and contexts to present the world as infinitely complex, intricate, and wondrous.
