This show belongs to the Adelaide Fringe 2025 season. This season is now over.

Two young people standing closely together against a plain black background with soft, coloured lighting that creates a blend of pink and purple tones on their skin and clothes. The person on the left is smiling slightly towards the camera, has long, wavy blonde hair and is wearing a mauve sleeveless crop top with a black choker necklace. The person on the right has short, wavy red hair and is wearing a lavender short-sleeve button-up shirt over a black bra. They have tattoos on their arms and are also looking directly at the camera with a serious expression. Their left arm is wrapped around the other person's shoulders, holding them close, while their right hand is slightly pulling the strap of the other person's shirt off their shoulder.
Two people pressed closely together and smiling happily illuminated by pink lighting, creating a warm and loving atmosphere, in front of a black background. The person on the left has long, wavy hair and is wearing a singlet. They are being held up by the person on the right, who has short, curly hair and is wearing a collared shirt. The person on the right has their arms around the person on the left's waist, lifting them slightly off the ground, while the person on the left has their hand gently placed on the other’s cheek.
Two people pressed closely together, one lifting the other. The person being lifted has a smile, but a dull expression behind the eyes. They are pressing their face against the other person's cheek, cupping their head. The person on the right (doing the lifting) has a more existential expression, seeming trapped in the embrace. Both people are lit in bright pink lighting.

Burn it.

Queer. Dark. Hilarious. The complications of a friendship that acts more like a relationship.

Charged and complex, ‘Burn it.’ exposes two friends navigating their feelings for each other, their mental health, and the aftermath of an abusive relationship.

But it’s funny, we promise.

Nothing says ‘moving on’ like zero self-reflection... Cam and Jayden prefer drinking, denial, and making fun of trauma. Their witty banter and dark humour perfectly balance heavy themes and raw, relatable storytelling.

“Laughing one minute, crying the next” The List

“Incredibly uncomfortable and ridiculously funny” Australian Stage

“Raw and powerfully emotional” The Theatre AU

Created by a queer team and written without gender, 'Burn it.' has been restaged with non-binary, masc and fem actors across six seasons.

Presented by: Lydia Kuelsen

Lydia Kuelsen is a queer writer, producer and actor, with a Bachelor of Acting for Stage and Screen (BAPA). Their passion is for naturalism and raw, emotive stories that connect with audiences on a personal level—exposing feelings and experiences that aren’t often shown in popular media.
Burn it. was written with an entirely genderless script so that any actor could step into either role and bring their own energy. Across six, Australia-wide seasons (2023-2025), various non-binary, fem and masc presenting actors have showcased the fluidity of the characters’ experiences. The goal: to prove that we are not alone in our struggles, no matter how we identify. The characters’ relationships and past experiences are not a product of their gender. They are a product of being human.
