Bioluminescence: music for solo flute
Flutist Melanie Walters presents a recital of solo flute music from the 20th and 21st Centuries, exploring music inspired by the wonder and beauty of natural phenomena.
"Walters’ flute playing was deliciously nimble, neat and nuanced as she unpretentiously negotiated the hugely tricky flute demands...without batting an eyelid." The Advertiser

Melanie Walters’ performance career includes playing beer bottles and party whistles on ABC Classic FM, performing in an ensemble dressed in paper in a Massachusetts art gallery, and marching in the 2000-piece band in the Sydney Olympics. Influenced by her misspent youth playing in flute ensembles and bashing out Bartok miniatures on the piano, she now specialises in performing contemporary flute music.
Melanie holds a PhD in flute performance, for which she received a Dean’s Commendation. She has performed for organisations including Musica Viva, Bang on a Can, COMA, and the Australian Flute Festival. As well as playing regularly as principal flute of the Adelaide Wind Orchestra, she can often be heard making strange, improvised sounds in venues like The Metro, and on ThreeD Radio.
