A standout act at the Adelaide Fringe, Tom Begg is quickly establishing himself as one to watch. With two shows under his belt this season, he’s emerging as a genuine rising star.
The show feels like a millennial safe haven—nostalgic, playful, and effortlessly engaging. Tom’s relaxed charisma carries the performance, complemented by solid acoustic guitar work and a clever, crowd-pleasing concept built around Pokémon culture. The live unwrapping of a Pokémon deck adds an interactive and unpredictable element that keeps the audience invested throughout.
There’s a unique charm in how the show blends humour, storytelling, and musicality, creating an experience that is both lighthearted and memorable. That said, while the premise promises a strong lineup of themed songs, it does feel like there could have been more of them woven into the set to fully deliver on that expectation.
Overall, Holographic Charizard is an enjoyable and well-crafted performance that showcases Tom Begg’s growing talent and stage presence. With a bit more depth in the musical offering, this could easily move from great to exceptional. A 4-star show from an artist clearly on the rise.
