Pear Tree is a story of when Sashi Perera looked to where she came from in the hopes it would tell her where she’s was going. Spoiler Alert: the answers were more pear shaped than she’d like.
The show touches on themes like family, identity and self worth in a really unique and sensitive way. Sashi is definitely a comedian with something to say, something to say that needs to be heard!
Sashi’s slightly sarcastic, razor sharp wit is showcased in her storytelling style of comedy in Pear Shape. Incase my description above left you questioning if this show was less comedy and more eat pray love. Let me assure you, Sashi is funny AF. She tells her story, but she tells it like your most down to earth friend who’s just FUNNY, over a beer at the local pub. But then you realise this amazing woman is rapidly progressing towards something bigger than being your friend because, when you look around you notice it’s not just your group of friends hanging on her every word, strangers are being weirdly quiet cause they wanna hear how the stories end too!
I could not get enough of the fun girlfriend vibes coming off the stage. Sashi comes off as an intelligent, independent woman who is also warm, genuine and down to earth. You can’t help but fall in love with her, you can’t help but want to be her friend. My two cents I think this stage persona is probably just her personality but however it happened makes it really easy for the audience to jump on board her stories and get really invested in what’s happening!
I loved this show,
I loved the story,
I love how Sashi told it,
I loved Sashi on stage,
I love that her voice in comedy feels unique!
This amazing woman has mastered the talent of weaving threads of comedy, tragedy and whatever life throws at her into an engaging, intelligent and funny AF story. Which is not an easy thing to do!
I’m looking forward to hearing more from Sashi in the future!
Until then …. You should definitely see Pear Tree! Hilarious!
Unfortunately Sashi has finished her run in Adelaide, but she’s kicking on to the Melbourne Comedy Festival and then a whole heap of other dates.
If you are in Melbourne, definitely get tickets!
Otherwise keep an eye on Sashi’s socials and if she’s in a venue near you, then get tickets!
