Luke Heggie brought his signature dead pan style of comedy to a packed Hindley Street Musical Hall for Adelaide Fringe. The crowd could not get enough of his satirical sense of humour. I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard all Fringe.
The narrative focused on Heggie’s constant struggles with being a middle aged straight white man in Australia. Heggie wove a masterful command of satire, sarcasm and his dry wit with self awareness and a warm stage persona to create a really engaging show for the audience.
Luke Heggie has managed the seemingly impossible, extreme likability and extreme offensiveness. It’s hard to explain unless you have seen a Luke Heggie show but trust me! It’s a good thing. You wouldn’t dream of repeating the words written on paper without Luke Heggie’s nuances delivered on stage. But the man is that is so good at what he does he can portray all kinds of irony, parody and really witty humour. Pure Freaking Talent.
There is no one like Luke Heggie. I love his dry sense of humour. I love the sarcasm. I love the on stage persona. I was looking forward to seeing him the whole festival. I did not anticipate the absolutely brilliant show he had prepared.
If you have been reading my reviews, I’ve made a heap of different metaphoric references to how much I laughed in comedy shows. Laughing my mascara off and the like.
This show does get a metaphor. I was laughing hysterically. Beginning to end.
I really want to give you more dates for Adelaide but unfortunately it was a one and done for young Mr Heggie. But he’s kicking on to the east coast with this show. So keep an eye on his socials and DEFINITELY get tickets if you can.
This is the most I have laughed at a Luke Heggie Show!
