If you’ve ever felt exhausted by dating apps, singles nights, or speed dating, MAFS: Married (at an) Adelaide Fringe Show Comedy offers a refreshing — and hilarious — alternative. As someone who has attended many singles events, I can confidently say that nothing compares to the energy and entertainment of this show.

Hosted by the incredibly talented Alex Adams, the performance keeps the audience engaged from start to finish. Adams has a natural ability to hold attention, combining a warm, friendly demeanor with sharp comedic timing. He is also exceptional at crowd interaction, effortlessly engaging with audience members and making everyone feel included. His ability to read the room and respond in the moment highlights that he is truly a “people person,” which adds to the overall charm of the show. His stage presence clearly resonated with the audience, particularly among the single attendees, creating an atmosphere that felt both welcoming and exciting.

What sets this show apart from other interactive comedy performances is its unique approach to audience participation. Guests are invited to fill out anonymous forms about themselves and their dating experiences. These responses — especially the more outrageous dating stories — are read aloud, generating some of the biggest laughs of the night. This element adds a personal and relatable touch, making the humour feel authentic and inclusive.

Co-host Montana Papadinis also delivers a standout performance. Known for her work in WOGlympics, Papadinis brings her own brand of humour to the stage, with memorable jokes about her experiences working at McDonald’s in an airport. Her quick wit and ability to interact with the audience add another dynamic layer to the show, as many crowd members clearly related to her stories.

Together, Adams and Papadinis create a comfortable environment where audience members feel encouraged to open up about their dating lives. Their chemistry as co-hosts keeps the energy high throughout the performance, culminating in a particularly entertaining moment where they attempt to matchmake two audience members — a highlight that had the entire room laughing.

The atmosphere in the room was electric. Laughter was constant, and by the end of the show, it was clear that no one wanted it to finish. The sense of shared experience — hearing others’ dating stories and laughing together — made the night feel memorable and genuinely uplifting.

Ultimately, MAFS: Married (at an) Adelaide Fringe Show Comedy is more than just a comedy show. It’s an experience that brings people together, restores a sense of fun to dating, and reminds audiences not to take it all too seriously. Whether you’re single or not, this show is well worth attending.

Overall, I give this show a well-deserved five-star rating. ★★★★★
