House of YOLO is a fast pace circus cabaret with underground dance party at Paris Fashion Week vibes. On its face it’s the tale of the power mad Welt Couture and their desire to create a fast “Adelaide” collection to sell to the highest bidder.
The Head Designer of Welt Couture creates their collection in real time on stage. The incredible acrobats and circus performers in the group bring the pieces to life in jaw dropping act after draw dropping act.
The connection between the clothes and the circus was really creative and well executed. The choreography really heavily referenced human movement and (fashion) posing. The performers were charismatic and masterful. The routines were executed with the confidence and boldness of Naomi Campbell walking down a runway. The whole picture of what unfolded on stage screamed high fashion, albeit somewhat satirically at times.
House of YOLO manages to do the seemingly impossible by bringing avantgarde fast fashion to the masses. How can fashion that is defined by speed and lack of design be considered avantgarde I hear you ponder?
In my opinion that parts easy! It’s when the “fast” is expressed via a fashion show after partyand mind bending acrobatics in a fringe festival.
Could it be? Fast fashion has substance?
House of YOLO makes an excellent argument for fast fashion being a tonne of fun! At the same time it features some amazingly talented circus, cabaret, clowning and acrobatic acts. It’s engaging, it’s intelligent, it’s brilliantly choreographed and perfectly executed and it’s an absolute rollercoaster.
You can’t miss this one!
House of Yolo is on until Sunday 22nd of March at the Garden
