Review: Swamplesque 2 ★★★★★
Back from Far Far Away Land (aka the UK) comes the chaotic team that brought the original Swamplesque to the Adelaide Fringe. This time around they’re bringing an even more chaotic and unhinged squeal – Swamplesque 2!
If you like your circus, burlesque and cabaraet a little bit weird, a little bit naughty and very, very funny, then Swamplesque 2 is an absolute must to put on your list of shows to go see!
Flawlessly weaving in the story of Shrek 2, where newly weds Shrek and Fiona travel to the kingdom of Far Far Away to meet her parents King Harold and Queen Lillian, who are shocked to find their daughter married to an ogre.
Bringing in the outrageless talented #TashYork who tackles the role of Fairy Godmother and an extremely sexual Prince Charming, who both plot to break up the happy couple, and you have the have the premise of the show.
Sounds simple enough, but the cast leans into it with absolute commitment. Expect outrageous costumes, wonderous musical numbers, big personalities and characters that feel like they crawled straight out of a fever dream… in the best possible way. The chemistry between the performers is fantastic, and the audience interaction keeps things unpredictable and playful.
Swamplesque 2 is cheeky without being crude, weird without trying too hard, and genuinely impressive from a theatrical perspective. By the end of the show the audience is fully on board with the madness.
Swamplesque 2 is silly, sexy, strange and wildly entertaining—exactly the kind of joyful chaos that makes the Adelaide Fringe so much fun. Just don’t be surprised if you leave the tent wondering what on earth you just watched… and wanting more.
