A stalwart of the last almost decade of Fringe, Shake It never disappoints.

Host, producer, main soloist and the love child of Rainbow Brite and Strawberry Shortcake, Minnie Andrews has curated an explosive list of guests for the season to accompany her brilliantly unique flavour and voice.

Andrews truly has brought real variety. Her cheeky demeanour is counterpointed beautifully by her soaring and emotional vocals, at one point holding the audience in her hand in the quiet parts of a classic ballad for them only to roar as her final note was powerfully delivered.

For the first taste of cabaret and burlesque Florence Fable twists turns and tumbles, each disposal of clothing bringing more of the contortionist out until Fable bounds into an almost magic pastie reveal that leaves the audience breathless.

As an aerial hoop is suspended Olivia Watts gracefully enters for her performance. As she performs it is like watching a piece of silk rise over a canyon. Watts delivers strength and fluidity making challenging poses look like relaxation.

In further forms of cabaret and burlesque Ember Rose and Saint Eve show how wide and varied the art form is.

Rose brings us slow, sensual and cheeky reveals with her own twist on classic tease. Her focus on the audience is an absolute delight to all, especially those lucky enough to attract special notice.

Conversely Saint Eve brings a high energy and non-conforming challenge that is fiercely likable. They embody the themes of strength and pride in identity and born sexuality without becoming a trope. A talking Boa and impressive flexibility really set Saint Eve solidly in the hearts of this rowdy crowd.

Rounding off the night the indomitable Jace Goncalves with a hoop act like no other. Having appeared earlier in the night showcasing their aerial skills and already a crowd favourite, this final act quite simply blew the roof off the tent in an almost religious experience.

Shake It’s reputation for talent and a great night out is well deserved.
