They say the sequel is better than the original — and SWAMPLESQUE 2 proves that sometimes the saying is absolutely true. This wildly unhinged mix of burlesque, drag, and circus chaos is everything a fairytale parody should be: ridiculous, spectacular, and outrageously entertaining.
From the moment the show begins, the energy is massive. The “MOA” truly lives up to its name — the stage is huge, the opening number sets the atmosphere perfectly, and the whole show launches straight into high-energy fabulousness that never lets up.
The talent across this cast is unbelievable. Prince Charming’s aerial aerobatics were genuinely jaw-dropping. Watching him twist, spin, and soar through the air while maintaining full Prince Charming charisma was one of the standout circus moments of the night — and the wig? Absolutely brilliant.
Then there’s Puss in Boots, who might just steal the show. Between the sequined nipples and an incredible sword-swallowing routine, the entire set had the audience laugh-shocked. It’s the kind of act where you don’t quite know whether to gasp, laugh, or applaud — so you end up doing all three at once.
The music choices throughout the show are phenomenal and keep the pace racing forward, but the live vocals are what really elevate the performance. The Fairy Godmother absolutely shines — her voice is outstanding and her diva-level stage presence is exactly what you want from a magical mentor figure. Honestly, the level of diva-ness on display is something I personally aspire to.
Another vocal highlight came from the Ugly Stepsister, Doris, whose rendition of “Roxanne” from Moulin Rouge had the entire audience rolling with laughter. It’s chaotic, theatrical brilliance.
Shrek himself brings some surprisingly impressive ballet moves to the swamp, while Fiona remains the queen she has always been — commanding the stage with confidence, humour, and power.
But perhaps the biggest shock of the night was the King. His performance builds to a final burlesque moment that had the audience absolutely "gushing" with laughter. It’s unexpected, ridiculous, and completely unforgettable.
This show is stacked with talent — truly an all-star cast delivering a spectacle that feels polished but still delightfully chaotic. It’s the kind of Fringe performance you could see over and over again and still discover new moments to laugh at.
Honestly, I would pay to see this every night of the Fringe and never get bored. Next time though, I’m getting front row. Happily ever after has never been this unhinged — and I already want to go back.
