Primal, Shake It & Rouge present: Matinasty
The artists from Highwire took the audience on an absolute rollercoaster of a sexy circus cabaret ride in Matinasty. The action was a mile a minute, quickly traversing between jaw dropping acrobatics, beautifully absurd choreography, iconic clowning & mesmerising vocals. The host, Minnie Andrew’s, looked as excited to introduce the performers as the audience was to watch them which was really great. Her warmth and enthusiasm won the crowd over immediately and the resultant atmosphere in that tent was nothing short of incredible.
Matinasty features EPIC performers across circus, cabaret and sideshow. And oh my gosh did they put on a good show! Every performer on that stage was a master technician and brought a creative perspective to their routine that only comes from a mind body spirit dedicated to their craft. On behalf of the audience, thank you for all that effort. You looked amazing and we appreciate what it took to get there.
Matinasty is a circus Matinee “Adelaide Fringe” Style. It starts at 4:30pm, comes with content warnings and you can bring wine! Perfect! Functionally this show is a fundraiser to supplement the income of artists working under the parent company Highwire. I think everyone is aware of the cost of living crisis at this point and the impact on ticket sales. So whilst I’m professing thanks on behalf of large groups of people I have no authority to speak for…. On behalf of the artists, thank you for buying a ticket.
Though I personally think we got a great deal because Matinasty was great (and I can justify the ticket price but calling it Civic Duty/Supporting the Arts). The show was fast paced, engaging, full of incredible performances and just a whole lot of fun.
I’d tell you to go see it, but unfortunately the season is over. Keep an eye out for Matinasty at Fringe 2027.
