Situated in its very own venue in Light Square, Lassu: Cosmic Cabaret makes its Adelaide Fringe debut at the Lassu Chapiteau. Blending live singing and aerial acts with fire-breathing and more than enough clowning around, the show certainly has a lot to offer Fringe-goers.
Following rodeo clown Rusty and his search for the golden lasso, the show kicks off with an astounding number performed by all cast members, preparing the crowd for the upcoming variety skills and talents. From the big balloon with a big… reveal… to the masterful slack rope juggling by seventh-generation circus performer Merrik Ashton, the show boasts a wide range of acts, with killer costumes (or lack thereof) to match the cast’s witty humour. Between the burlesque numbers, aerial hair spinning, and bodyweight balancing, the show has much to offer, maximising as much of its venue as possible to deliver some awe-inspiring acts.
The standout highlight simply has to be the femme fatale Isabella Caniglia. Her skills with the aerial hoop, whips, and fire-breathing are certainly more than enough to heat up the crowd, engaging audiences with cheeky looks that compliment her talents on stage.
Though the show boasts a solid start, some of the pacing might leave audiences wanting more than a little more. After shaking off the half an hour late start on March 14, the performers whipped the Saturday night crowd to the edge of their seats. Once there, the pacing took an unfortunate downturn just shy of the last couple of acts for the night, providing a somewhat jarring foil to the jaw-dropping skills displayed on stage moments earlier. Perhaps a little too much Tom and not enough foolery to match the high highs of the show, clear to many that transitions between acts were drawn out to pad for time.
Looking for an out-of-this-world variety show? Need something that blends the past and future for over 100 minutes of skills and talent? Lassu: Cosmic Cabaret has got you covered.
