How good can a Fringe show at 10.30 at night be? Well, when it stars a magical performer like Songbird Siren, you can be sure that it is going to be must-see viewing. Songbird Siren is a woman who doesn’t ask for your attention; she slaps you across the face and demands it. With Confessions of a Drama Queen, she bears her soul (and practically everything else) to produce a truly memorable experience for those lucky enough to be in attendance.

Songbird has tried out for a lot of jobs in her life. Answering phones, dancing, working in restaurants, singing, you name it, she’s done it. But it was as a stripper that she found her calling. Of course, with this type of job, she has met a variety of characters, and it is through this show that we see and hear all about it. Confessions of a Drama Queen is not just a one-woman show, mind you. Songbird has brought along four high-quality artistic talents to tell her story, each of them bringing something unique and highly entertaining to the performance. Laura, Carla, Andy and Jack all need to be given a special mention, because they turned this show from just very good to absolutely exceptional.

I’ve watched and reviewed at least thirty shows at Adelaide Fringe 2026. Never have I seen such clean transitions, in-synch teamwork and stunning costume changes in a single performance. The behind-the-scenes aspects of a production may not be sexy to regular audiences, but they certainly make a big difference to the beats of a show. I can happily report that this show doesn’t miss a single beat. I’d highly recommend that new producers and show creators come to Confessions for an example of just how proficient you can be in between the storyline.

Throughout this review I haven’t even mentioned how hypnotising Songbird Siren’s voice is. I think her singing may actually have been so strong that the Nineteen Ten speakers couldn’t manage it. And I won’t spoil all Songbirds' confessions or the songs in the show. But if you throw Alannah Myles in the mix, you certainly get my vote. The sleeper hit of Adelaide Fringe 2026!
