I attended the final show of the season, Dogs… A Canine Cabaret, and it was truly unforgettable. From the moment the show began, Carla’s warmth and engagement with the audience created an atmosphere that felt personal and inclusive. Her constant interaction with the crowd made everyone feel like part of the performance, and you could see the excitement across the room whenever she spoke directly with audience members.

One of the most charming elements of the show was Carla’s storytelling. She shared heartfelt memories of growing up with dogs, turning those experiences into songs dedicated to each dog she had throughout her life. Each song captured the personality of the dog it honoured, which made the performance both creative and deeply touching. A particularly delightful moment came when Carla spoke with audience members about their own dogs and even dedicated songs to some of them, bringing a wonderful sense of spontaneity to the night.

The show’s themes of love and loss resonated strongly with the audience. Whether or not you owned a dog, the emotional journey was relatable and powerful. The audience was guided through waves of emotion—moments of joy, reflection, sadness, and laughter—flowing seamlessly from one feeling to the next.

What made this cabaret stand out was its originality. It felt unlike any cabaret performance I have seen before. Even the musicians on stage seemed to share in the emotional journey, reacting alongside the audience and contributing to the immersive atmosphere. A particularly clever moment was the use of voiceovers while a puppet puppy appeared on stage, telling the story of Carla’s dogs Max and April. It was a creative and memorable storytelling device.

Adding to the magic of the show was Carla’s powerhouse voice. Her vocal strength and emotional delivery truly captivated the room and left a lasting impression on the audience.

Overall, Dogs… A Canine Cabaret was heartfelt, inventive, and incredibly entertaining. Carla delivered a performance full of warmth, humour, and emotional depth. It was a wonderful way to close the season and a show that clearly left the audience delighted.

Carla, I give you 5 out of 5 stars – a well-deserved for an amazing performance!!!
