After multiple sold out UK Tours, James Schloeffel and Charles Firth are back at the Adelaide Fringe with their hugely popular show, Wankernomics (or to use its full title, Wankernomics: Show_v4_Final_USETHIS). With their friendly but sharp humour, these guys keep the laughs happening for a full 60 minutes, and there seems to be no limit to the “corporate bullshittery” and “wankspeak” these guys are capable of.
This show may need a trigger warning though. Depending on how much exposure to the corporate world you’ve suffered, you may find some of their tangents and content a bit confronting, but you’ll still laugh. If it feels like your world is increasingly and needlessly complicated by the hoops you’re required to jump through to complete even the smallest of tasks these days, then these guys understand your pain. But they’re going to lean into that pain and make it hilarious.
Surprisingly cathartic, yet teeth grindingly close to home at times, Wankernomics is not just a show for those from the corporate world. We’re all attacked with this inane babble on a daily basis, making this a show that can be enjoyed, endured, and embraced by everyone.
Schloeffel and Firth are very clever writers, and their delivery is almost flawless. Their comedic timing is spot on, as you’d expect in a show that’s been touring since 2023. Wankernomicsis superbly written, expertly fine-tuned, and fantastically funny.
I’ve heard rumours that this is the last year Schloeffel and Firth will be performing Wankernomics. I can’t substantiate that rumour, but my advice is to not risk it. Get a ticket and settle in for an hour of ‘business blah-blah’ and ‘office-speak idiocy’, at levels of ‘occupational nonsense rubbish’ never before seen.
Here in Adelaide until the end of the Adelaide Fringe, tickets are selling fast, so don’t miss this truly original and unique reflection on the absurdity of life as we know it.
