Review: Jackson vs Jackson
Date: 10/03/2026
Gluttony - Peacock

Temperatures rose at Gluttony on opening night with Jackson vs Jackson, a high-energy tribute celebrating the music and legacy of two of pop’s most iconic siblings, Michael and Janet Jackson.

Led by the powerful vocals of Charmaine Janitha Jones and backed by Adelaide’s Gospo Collective, the production delivers a vibrant mix of gospel harmonies, live band, choir and choreography. From the opening moments it is clear this is more than a simple tribute show. It is a full musical celebration with plenty happening on stage.

The strength of the performance lies in the vocal talent. Jones leads with confidence and soul, supported by a dynamic choir that brings rich harmonies and infectious energy to the set. The live band keeps the momentum strong throughout, driving the familiar hits with pace and punch.

The staging is lively and engaging, with choreography and movement that keeps the audience’s attention from start to finish. One particularly lovely touch is the inclusion of younger performers, which adds a sense of joy and community to the production and clearly resonates with the crowd.

Audience engagement is high, with many people singing along and moving to the beat as the night unfolds. It is a feel-good production that captures the spirit and energy of the Jackson catalogue while giving it a distinct gospel flavour.

A slight adjustment to the balance between vocals and band at times would allow the impressive vocal performances to shine through even more clearly and could easily elevate the show to a five-star experience.

That said, Jackson vs Jackson is an energetic, entertaining and uplifting celebration that delivers exactly what a Fringe audience hopes for: great music, strong performances and an atmosphere that invites everyone to join the party.
