In the intimate setting of Nexus Arts, Like A Star is a heartfelt celebration of the music and storytelling of Corinne Bailey Rae, brought to life by the captivating presence of Leticia Lee. Fresh from award-winning seasons at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival, Lee makes her debut as a 2026 Fringe presenter with a show that feels both intimate and uplifting.
With a confident stage presence and a sultry, soulful voice, Lee proves herself to be a natural storyteller. Through Bailey Rae’s catalogue, she gently weaves together stories of love, grief, and, as she says, most importantly, hope, creating a performance that resonates deeply with the audience.
A standout moment of the night is the band’s Corinne Bailey Ray’s beautiful cover of Bob Marley’s “Is This Love,” delivered with warmth and sensitivity. It’s the kind of moment where the room collectively leans in, soaking up every note.
The musicians backing Lee bring a vibrant energy to the stage, with a rousing guitar solo from Matt Hawke igniting the crowd. Hawke, who also features in Adelaide Fringe shows such as Beautiful Lies and, with Lee, features in Bond Songs at Holden Street Theatres, proves why these band members are one to watch on Adelaide’s live music scene.
Lee shares that the song “Green Aphrodisiac” was what first drew her into Bailey Rae’s music, recounting how she discovered it while cleaning her room, moments like this add a warm, personal touch to the evening.
Like A Star is the kind of show you could bring your best friends to, your mum along for the ride, or even someone special for a relaxed and soulful date night. Lee’s soothing vocals, paired with passionate, engaging musicians, create an atmosphere that feels both polished and genuine. There are clear up-and-comers among the performers, and together they deliver a performance that leaves the audience feeling uplifted.
For music and gig lovers, especially fans of neo-soul and R&B, this show is a treat. Expect rich vocals, lush instrumental arrangements, and a heartfelt tribute to an artist whose music continues to inspire.
