Boasting a sold-out debut and a standing ovation at The Mill, Phoebs, You’re A Lesbian follows debut Adelaide Fringe artist Phoebe Rodger and her journey of self-identity and understanding queerness. Taking a trip down lesbian lane to look at historical queer women and critique the kind of world we live in today through music, acting, and dance, Phoebe is sure to wow Fringe goers with a one two punch of comedy and heartfelt morality.
Decked out in a pink denim jumpsuit with sparkly cuffs and the word “lesbian” bedazzled to the back, Phoebe is an excellent performer. From tap dancing her way through her first crush on a convicted criminal to ukulele-ing her questions about why the world is the way it is, Phoebe uses her relatability, charm, and talent to win the audience's attention. Her jokes about her first kiss and her anecdotes about her queer awakening at a viewing of a musical set around a yellow-brick road are perfectly timed and deliver laughs in a major way. This self-aware and autobiographical cabaret is both entertaining and thought provoking.
At the heart of Phoebe’s show is a very deep and very real moral about being queer. The performer shares that being queer is a gift, one which many struggle to realise and accept. Many queer individuals like Phoebe are “fighting for technicolour in a world of black and white” just by being proud of who they are. Audiences are left with thoughts of how many lives would’ve changed if growing up queer wasn’t synonymous with shame, a question that deserves attention now more than ever.
This beautifully funny portrayal of what it means to be queer in 2026 will take you on a rollercoaster of laughing, thinking, and feeling. Get your tickets to Phoebs, You’re A Lesbian now!
