Tahir’s debut show for the 2026 Adelaide Fringe, “I’m insulted that you’re offended”, treads familiar ground in the ever-shifting landscape of comedy and social commentary. Promising to poke at the boundaries of offence, Tahir instead spends much of the night pondering what really offends people nowadays, engaging the audience with questions rather than truly provocative material. The show features a handful of interactive magic tricks and a few pieces of original content, but leans heavily on recycled punchlines and references, such as Graham Kennedy’s infamous “Fark” crow call and a smattering of well-worn Aussie slang that’s unlikely to ruffle any feathers.

While Tahir aims to deliver a roast of modern sensitivities, the show at times falls short of strong comedic rhythm. The reliance on an autocue, even with his considerable experience, can disrupt the flow and diminish the overall impact. Throughout the performance, Tahir repeatedly referenced Sydney instead of Adelaide, which added to the sense of detachment from the local audience and further affected the connection with those expecting a more tailored show. That said, the performance’s mix of nostalgia and classic references may resonate more with younger audience members or those less familiar with Australian comedic traditions, providing an accessible introduction to Tahir’s material.

Despite these shortcomings, Tahir comes across as an affable and genuine performer, clearly enjoying his interaction with the crowd. A highlight of the evening was his playful gesture of giving away fluffy bears with mullets to audience members, which added a quirky and memorable touch to the show. However, for seasoned comedy-goers hoping for sharp wit or fresh insights, the show may leave them wanting. “I’m insulted that you’re offended” is ultimately a light-hearted, occasionally nostalgic hour that raises the question of whether pushing boundaries is still possible or even necessary in today’s comedy scene.
