Music & Mayhem: Rebellion is an explosive punk rock cabaret that would make/ have made Vivienne Westwood, Bowie and the Beth Ditto proud! It’s the rollercoaster through queer culture that needed to happen. I could not have loved this show any more than I did!
I always expect big things from Jazida Productions but she’s really outdone herself with this one. Partnering with the amazing Canberra based punk band Non-binary, Jazida has curated some absolutely brilliant artists across circus, fire and dance to tell a story of queer culture. Each of the artists were nothing short of breathtaking and added a unique and meaningful layer to a complex conceptual show.
The collaboration with Non-Binary was foundational to the success of the show. The creative collaboration enriched the show. I loved that you could hear the emotional investment in the voice of the lead vocalist both when they were hosting and singing. It strengthened the themes of community and culture in the show. The music was exceptional and created an energy on stage that lifted the artists and the audience alike.
Music and Mayhem: Rebellion is easily one of my Fringe Highlights. This show is what Cabaret aspires to be! The energy resonating from the stage was palpable. I laughed, I cried, I screamed my lungs out! The artists were freaking brilliant and pushing all kinds of creative boundaries and perhaps most importantly the Jazida Productions (with the support of Non-Binary) successfully involved a very willing tent full of people in an expression of queer joy that they won’t forget!!!
