Play is something that the average adult doesn’t necessarily get to do enough of in their mundane lives…so it is an absolute pleasure that Jeromaia Detto has produced a creative arts space that invites the audience to share all of the improvised fun in Giuseppe’s Game Time Wonder Show.

Host, Giuseppe is a cheeky clown character that hails from Italy (and is also on a love quest*) and has his very own game show that is pure pandemonium. What are the rules? How is it scored? Who is the victor? I can only describe this as peak late night fringe festival chaos at its best and most completely unhinged, featuring Giuseppe’s victims, um contestants, Will Spartalis and Britt Plummer were fighting for the glory (and a trophy found in a bin at Melbourne Airport) on the night I reviewed. It was a wonderful and whimsical performance, if not entirely wholesome at times.

I have absolutely no idea after mayhem that ensued who took out the gold medal , but at the end of the day, everyone there were winners for having been and enjoyed the shenanigans of the game show. This is definitely the kind of production that relies on an audience’s ability to get involved and engage with the contestants in silly ways, something that Jeromaia Detto as a master clown and improviser, was able to draw out of the crowd even at the end of a long day. Honestly it’s the perfect antidote to everything else going on in the world right now even just for an hour of respite.
