Sold! Marketing Man has all your Fringe needs, in a perfect package
Gird your loins, get your buzzer fingers ready for this rollicking slice of absolute joy. The Fringe has always been a breeding ground for brave artists who hone their craft for grateful audiences who didn’t know their funny bone was so neglected. This show is why the Fringe was formed, why it is still exhilarating to see a lone performer baring their bodies and souls to strangers, and a love of the power the art holds.
I am not prone to laughing out loud, and I do try to keep myself decent when reviewing. However, some shows are just too funny, too expertly honed and so brilliantly clever that I couldn’t contain erupting in cathartic chuckling.
MJ Wilson effortlessly delivers a witty and intelligent performance as Murdock Matterson, a camp advertising tragic who takes us on a journey through the brands that have defined generations. The audience are treated to a master of stagecraft, with Wilson’s vocal gymnastics and electrifying stage presence a delight to behold.
The performer is a superb guide through a deceptively nuanced narrative and a slick array of movements, not once did the audience feel like an intruder, just a welcome guest on a fabulous journey.
Deftly maintaining an impressive array of vocals, and owning the stage through finely structured and flamboyant movement, Wilson is a performer of the highest calibre and extraordinary range who deserves wider attention.
This show is classic Fringe fare, surprising, generous, hilarious and bonkers without losing the thread that links the artist to the audience.
