Korinna Gouros: Sorry, My Mum Won’t Let Me
The Green Room at The Austral Hotel
Wed Mar 4, 2026
It’s not easy to create a vibe in a room of less than 10 punters when the level of technical support you’ve been allocated is worse than substandard and the noise pollution outside of your gig is interfering with your punchlines – but this up-and-coming star proved the impossible.
Korinna Gouros is no stranger to feeling vulnerable, as we learn throughout her set which takes us on her journey of self-discovery – from benevolent younger sibling with a hyper-vigilant migrant mother to rebellious teenager capitulating in the chaos of sexual temptation. Korinna mingled with sordid types who served to teach her that men are trouble, sex is mostly transactional, and perhaps shifting her orientation to more sapphic experiences could guide her trajectory to something safer. Alas, she soon discovers that toxicity has no gender preference for where it resides!
The dramatic enactments of her interactions with her mother and her ex-partners had the audience in knots of laughter and whilst her experiences felt engrossingly unique and hers alone, at the core of them was something so relatable to all of us: the desire to be appreciated as you are...and accepted by your mother!
Overall this performance, due to its intimate setting and personal content, felt more like a cathartic catch up in a room full of new friends than a stage show. It was a privilege and a pleasure to be there.
