Sumazing! Part sumo, part sumo tragic comedy, part sumo child beat-down. Fun for the whole family.

If you don’t like performers at the top of their game in revealing attire, that rules out at least half of the Fringe. These guys are the real deal and they put on a hell of a show. Watching sumo, like most sport, hits hardest live. It’s fast, physical, and over before you can blink, with the kind of stakes that feel high even when you’re laughing.

The athletes are sillier than I expected, but it’s a feature, not a flaw. You learn, you laugh, and then you watch in wide-eyed disbelief as these big boys launch each other around the ring. There’s proper insight into the rituals, history and rules too, so you leave feeling like you’ve had both a show and ready to sumo properly yourself.

You can also buy a wristband for a loved one to go toe-to-toe with a wrestler, and there’s seemingly no age requirement. It was wild and terrifying to see the children flung around the ring, giving them what I imagine they had coming (I'm joking, the burley professionals were very gentle and sweet to the kids).

Pick your favourite titan early, and yell. Get ‘em, Waka!
