Tassels? Check. Cowboy hats? Check. Rhinestones? Check. Sass, attitude and a rollicking line-up of Aussie burlesque talent? Check! Burlesque Hoedown is back baby, and it’s here to deliver another sensational show with a whole lot of Yee and an ample dose of Haw!
Hosted by the inimitable Lyra La Belle, expect a sensational hour of saucy entertainment with a gleeful country theme. Battling through the humidity on a Sunday afternoon of all days, the Ukiyo was turned into a corral of cowgirls, cowboys and everyone in between. Any show hosted by Lyra is going to deliver the goods, and today she was no exception. Dressed like a barnyard Barbie in resplendent pinks and horse print, she could sell the show on her raw charisma and swoon worthy presentation alone. You won't see a tassel twirling out of place or a rhinestone off centre (even a small holdup when Lyra gets tape stuck on her gloves is mined for comic gold).
Artists hailing from interstate and Adelaide's burlesque boutiques grace the stage with the swagger of rodeo riders. It's impossible to pick a favourite from this line-up, with everyone delivering a unique and abundant flavour to the production. Melbourne-based firecracker Cora Noire lights up the scene with a stunning bedazzled red ensemble and legs for days. Tap-dancing talent Ember Rose gallops on the stage like it’s her own personal rodeo.
Winchester Angel, in a jaw-droppingly gorgeous ruffled number, puts the M in Madame with a spectacularly sexy solo. Serafina Sinclair combines her trademark elegance and boss lady sensuality with a traditional striptease with fringes galore. Resident producer and all-around *Mother* Teaser Amore gets down and dirty with her twin pistols aflame and her bootylicious cowgirl act. Flow Alchemist is an ingenious addition to the cast with his sizzling fire poi act, juggling not one, two or three but FOUR balls at once. And oh my lord, you won’t be able to comprehend the sheer insanity of Remi Reign, a cow outfit and a milk bath.
For a relatively small production, this show was polished until it shone brighter than a glittery pastie. The cast never lets up on the throttle with one wildcard act after another, and not a moment is left to linger too long before the next outrageous stunt. Teaser Productions infused this show with such a contagiously fun energy that it brims with personality and sauciness. I doubt any audience member was able to stay passive throughout the entire runtime. You couldn’t see a single person who wasn’t clapping, stamping or yeehaw-ing for more.
This cowboy cabaret is just the ticket for those looking to spice up their lazy afternoons. You’ll be hooting and hollering at this outlaw crew of burlesque baddies. And if you’re hot under the collar? It’s definitely not just the humidity getting to you!
