At 9am on a rainy Saturday morning is not the time you expect to run into a shining light made of  Unicorns and glitter but Hana Fiesta makes it so.

There are so many things to consider when putting on an all-inclusive kids show but Big Unicorn Dance Party fits the bill.

Set in an open and undercover safe play space in Fool’s Paradise Hub, the room is lit with patterned lasers, there are activity stations, a photo booth wall for dress-ups and even a glitter station for those wanting that shiny edge.

Dotted around the space are blown up Unicorns which delighted the children as they entered.

Hana Fiesta is an incredibly competent and vivacious performer doing the difficult work of herding her audience. She is engaging and reads her room well, responding to their interactions and immediately providing distractions to keep the attention of the young crowd should they look waning.

The songs are catchy and the dances are guided but not controlled enabling the children to express themselves to their own nature whilst still having an absolute blast.

The show is broken up into easy to understand sections where the kids can participate a lot or a little, there is no demand on the children to be anything other than themselves to enjoy the show.

I attended with a 6 year old for the full litmus test of how the show was received and I place in quotes the responses:

“I LOVED IT! The best part was the running and the dancing. I liked that there was lots of movement because that is not only fun you know, but good for your health. Unicorns are the best!”

So there you have it, from the mouths of babes, Big Unicorn Dance Party is not only well run, hosted by the wonderful Hana Fiesta, but it’s also good for your health.
