Star rating:The greenest, gayest and most glittering plus sized 5 stars!
Burlesque is a very versatile art-form and there has been everything from jazz, blues and to the vintage show girl styles of show at this year’s Adelaide Fringe Festival. Burlesque is the art of the tease and Swamplesque 2 is an uproarious parody production, that opens with a disclaimer that they are not in fact a Shrek show in order to being sued by a certain copyright holder of Shrek. Brisbane based Trigger Happy is the titular swamp ogre accompanied by a certain sarcastic (but discotheque) donkey portrayed by the wonderful Henry Spaghetti as they travel with Princess Fiona to visit her parents for a “blessing” upon her marriage in a kingdom that is Far Far Away. Tash York is fabulous as the Fairy Godmother I’d like to be when I grow up.
This adventure through a sequel that they claim is better than the first is a dazzling PHAT, feel good trip through a parody with the gayest, greenest, most glittering ogres and one very nice showpony who can sometimes be an ass! The show has the fabulous support cast I’ve ever seen with everything from a traditional Queenly burlesque to a sword swallowing Puss in Boots that made hairballs and sword swallowing strangely erotic. The costumes are gloriously gaudy and the featured routines are so fun that you will not notice the 70 minutes fly by. A clever and celebratory look at gay, plus size burlesque in a marquis venue!
