Magician Mu-Syuan Chang returns for his third successful season at the Adelaide Fringe with a new solo show and a return of last year’s hit, Duel and Dual with comedic magician Tu Strange.

Audiovisual: The Sound of Magic is close-up magic at its finest, exploring the illusion of sound, from the beating of a heart to the chiming of a bell to bring forth each sleight of hand.

Ironically, Chang stays silent during his one-man show, which was created as part of his current PhD on sound and magic.

As a performer, he’s charming and lithe as he weaves around the stage like a dancer and interacts with his audience, inclusive of all ages. His tricks range from classic magic to more unique ideas, but his greatest trick is making the hour disappear. Chang is enchanting.

After a slightly unhurried start to his show, the pace materialised and proceeded with a pleasing sense of abraca-cadence. When not conjuring up giggles or gasps, Chang captivates with polished prestidigitation and playful panache.

During the 2025 Fringe, Chang walked away as a Weekly Best Magic Award Winner. This year he proves why that was no illusion.
