With pages leaping from her text towards her grandiose red dress, Fringe-goers are in for a wild ride with Alice Fraser: A Passion For Passion. Hosted in the Austral Hotel’s Balcony Bar, Alice invites audiences on her experience of how she came to write a book, including but not limited to choking on a lozenge at terribly cheesy book blurbs and becoming involuntarily involved in the worst threesome to grace a 26-hour flight to the UK.
Describing herself as a nerdy, bro, were-lady, Alice’s anecdotes are carefully interlaced with a collection of giggle-worthy and masterfully timed jokes that are sure to tickle your funny bone. Her deep love of books and unapologetic sense of self bleeds through her performance, something that audiences can both admire and hopefully relate to. Pausing to let jokes settle and knowing exactly when to deliver the next line helps Alice not only engage but connect with Fringe-goers from all walks of life.
The humour behind her wild adventure into the world of publishing is paired with a deep seriousness about the world of writing and the position of romance books as “guilty pleasures”. Vocalising what many writers feel about having to write THE perfect book and how books really can save your life, Alice’s story is truly inspiring (remind me that I need to get back to writing my own book!).
Are you parched and need something to fill your thirst for a good show? Alice Fraser: A Passion for Passion is the one for you! Because whether you love hating romance novels, hate loving romance novels, or simply have no clue about them (looking at you straight men reading this), we could all use a good laugh, a great show, and an even better story.
