If you thought the 27 Club was hard to top, Amplified House just proved you wrong with their latest knockout, Twenty Sixteen. This isn’t just a show, it is a full-throttle, spotlight-drenched, heart-thumping resurrection of musical legends lost in that cursed year, 2016. Let’s be real, I was sceptical when I heard a new gig was filling the 27 Club’s boots at Gluttony. However, this isn’t a replacement; it’s an evolution.
The setlist is a love letter to icons, Bowie, Prince, George Michael, Leonard Cohen whose genius vanished in a blur. The creatives at Amplified House don’t just play the hits, they channel them. Visuals are sharp and never empty. Lighting? Moody and deliberate. The sound? It’ll rattle your bones one minute, then have you holding your breath the next. Forget nostalgia, this is pure, unfiltered homage with a bit of rock’n’roll grit.
Let’s talk lineup. Dusty Lee Stephensen is as always, all swagger, but I have to say it’s Jaron Jay and Kylie Auldist who crank up the voltage. Auldist was an absolute revelation, her voice tearing through the The Fantail like a lightning bolt. Backed by Ben Todd, Harrison Smith, Nic Jeffries and Jack Strempel, the band is tighter than your favourite pair of jeans after Chrissy lunch.
Amplified House delivers not just a gig, but a wild, emotional group therapy session. You’ll cry, belt out tunes, and probably text your mates to get in quick.
Twenty Sixteen continues at The Fantail, Gluttony until 8 March 2026.
