The Shamrocks are the true definition of Irish Craic! Wow! What a show! The lads from Northern Ireland are here in Adelaide for the very first time bringing their Irish pub sing-a-long show to Gluttony at the Fringe.
Let’s get the stats out of the way because they are certainly impressive; Double Emmy® Award-winners, 100 million video views, 300,000 followers on social media, and performances in over 30 countries even playing the iconic Sydney Opera House and London’s Adelphi Theatre. So now its Adelaide turn!
From the minute they entered the stage it was a non-stop party. Singing all the classic Irish songs and a few Aussie ones thrown in for good fun measure with such high-spirited energy. Singing many true classics such as Black Velvet Band, Parting Glass and the Scottish folk love song Red is the Rose but with an Irish twist! Who would have thought an Irish band would even know about Slim Dusty but a bit of trivia that we learnt was that the song Pub with No Beer went to number one in Ireland but only number two in Australia. Surprised? Yeah, I was!
The Shamrocks know how to captivate their audience. There was plenty of hand clapping, toe tapping and cheers of admiration. It was hard to resist from getting on your feet and doing a bit of the Irish jig just like band member Jimmy Johnston. Along with brother Nathan, founding members (also brothers) Raymond and Jack Walsh and Mathew Campbell, the chemistry between them is electric and their energy elevates the show to a whole other level.
Armed with Bodhráns, an Irish frame drum, flutes and guitars, the distinctive Irish sounds filled the Virago venue. All we needed was a mini bar serving Irish whiskey and Guinness!
The lads have said that Adelaide feels like a home away from home and we are happy to call them locals for the time of their stay!
