I’ve heard of Oscar Wilde but I must admit I don’t know much about The Importance of Being Earnest. Does that matter if you want to see the Adelaide Fringe show …Earnest? No! Straight off the bat, I say go see this unpredictable, no show is the same Fringe show!
If you want to find out what happens when the lead actor of a play doesn’t turn up and the director needs to find a new leading man, then be aware, it could be YOU! …Earnest? is very loosely based on an Oscar Wilde play but when you need to fill in the roles of actors from your audience then a crazy kind of mayhem is guaranteed!
Considering they don’t know what will come out of their newly appointed fellow actors, this show flows well with such unpredictable precision. The inexperience of the chosen audience members mixed with the actual experience of the professional actors was a perfectly imperfect blend throwing the whole show into a chaotic messy success.
It’s a story of intertwined love between the characters. Its fast paced. It’s a go go go storyline where quick thinking wittiness and slapstick comedy was a constant.
It’s laugh after laugh and it’s basically YOU the audience that can make it a great show. With plenty of unpredictability, misinterpretation and laugh out loud moments …Earnest? works. It works so well and knowing it’s not going to be the same show the next night will be making you want to go see it again!
