Every now and again you stumble across a show that is nothing like what you expect it to be and you walk out pleasantly surprised. This is one of those gems.

This show is so much more than a show about Bob Marley and his music. Duane Forrest has crafted a brilliant piece of theatre that weaves the history of reggae and Marley’s life seamlessly. The magical part of this show is Forrest’s own personal story used as the glue to bring it all together.

Key components of the show are accompanied by Forrest on guitar, and songs at key moments add additional impact. Forrest’s guitar playing and voice are exceptional. The mastery over the guitar is mesmerising. Forrest makes the instrument sing, the perfect accompaniment to his soulful voice.

Forrest’s storytelling is what draws you into this show. The script is creatively structured to have you singing along with him one moment (you are encouraged to join him in songs if you know the words) and gasping in shock when a story takes a twist.

Don’t feel you need to be a Marley fan or a lover of reggae to be able to enjoy this show. It is the perfect piece of theatre for anyone who has a love for well constructed theatre with great storytelling.

Playing right through until the end of the Adelaide Fringe, Bob Marley, How Reggae Changed The World is a ‘must add’ to your Holden Street viewing list. Get swept up on Duane Forrest’s warm, brilliant storytelling and exquisite musicianship.
