The circus spectacular, La Ronde made its debut at the Adelaide Fringe last year to rave reviews. Since then it has toured and transformed and is back at the Fringe better than ever. Created by the producers of Blanc de Blanc and LIMBO and with a blend of familiar and new characters, it is sure to be the hit of the season.
The show is performed on a circular stage in the centre of the Spiegeltent, which means that everyone has a great view of the action. Performers appear from anywhere as they hit the stage. Familiar UK songstress Gigi has a starring role in holding the show together with a series of powerful tunes.
Russian aerialist, Jenny Zavadskia does a virtual strip tease whilst high above the audience. Hand stand expert Danik Abishev shows an incredible feat of strength and skill as he literally dances on his hands atop a high arch. Again, there is a strip tease element at play. can you see the common theme here? Sexy, skilled acrobats performing jaw-dropping feats of powerful acrobatics, to an uplifting and driving backdrop of music.
Interspersed amongst the athletes, award winning clown, David Eriksson gave some side-splitting performances that touched the edges of gross. With a combination of buckets, balloons and toilet plungers, it was a case of not knowing what would come next.
What impressed most is the camaraderie and support between the cast members. It was a joy to watch the acrobatic endeavours of UK aerialist LJ Marles, the elegance of German born Diana Bondarenko and the sensational viral pole dancer Sergiy Mishchurenko.
The show is tight, bright, fun-filled, breathtaking and wondrous, that truly lifts the spirit.
