“Circus with heart: intimate, authentic, unforgettable.”
Brisbane’s Casus Creations return with their highly anticipated production You & I and with more than 66 awards, performances in 25 countries, and audiences exceeding half a million people, expectations were understandably high. Happily, they deliver.
This is this is contemporary circus and aerobatics with a message, exploring a loving relationship between two gays circus artists, incorporating acrobatics, trapeze and dance movement.
You & I is contemporary circus with heart. Blending acrobatics, trapeze and expressive dance, the show explores the loving relationship between two gay circus artists with honesty and vulnerability. Described as “daring and intimate” and “unashamedly authentic,” this show holds your attention completely for 55 minutes.
Co-founders Jesse Scott and Lachlan McAulay, partners both onstage and in real life have created a circus-theatre work that reflects their own relationship. Their connection is undeniable. As with all acrobatics, absolute trust is essential, and the depth of communication between them is palpable. A couple of minor missteps only added to the authenticity, reminding the audience of the risk and reality inherent in live performance.
The action unfolds within a simple, cosy domestic setting, clothes, a trunk, furniture, wine glasses, offering glimpses into the rhythms of shared life. It feels intimate and emotionally genuine, almost like observing the private moments of a household on a quiet, rain-soaked afternoon.
While its reflective tone may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it remains engaging and thoughtfully performed throughout.
