GRIT promises sexy burlesque routines, impressive contemporary dance choreography, envy-inducing outfits, an engaging host and talented performers, alongside important feminist messages relevant to the show.
Energetic professional dancers, a flexible and graceful acrobat, and stunning burlesque-teases - all hosted by a confident and witty hostess called Madame - have the audience gasping in awe, having a chuckle, cheering in agreeance, and feeling hot under the collar within the intimate space of the Ukiyo. Healthy sex and positive sexual pleasure are prominent themes within the show, with routines and choreography depicting queer romance, self-pleasuring, female sexual empowerment, and celebrating diverse sexual identities. Alongside this is a Charlie’s Angels-like relationship between the performers, where successful collaboration and support between all the performers is just as important as individual confidence, sexiness and ability.
All of the performances are top quality and have the audience cheering in their seats - they are all immensely talented and confident performers who you can tell have years of experience behind them. A standout of the show is definitely the acrobatic performer as she performs mesmerising routines throughout the night on a suspended pole, a monkey bar-like frame, aerial hoop and one-handed hand-balancing. All routines are performed to perfection, displaying the performers astonishing flexibility, impressive upper-body strength, and memorable poise.
The progressive messages within the show are fantastic to hear, especially when the show’s theme is strongly focused on the somewhat socially-taboo subjects of sex and sexuality. Other themes in GRIT include ‘love is love’, ‘consent is key’ and ‘everyone can be sexually-liberated’ messages, as well as promotion of self-love no matter who you are.
The costumes throughout are fantastic, varying from feminine, flirty and girly lace gloves, pink chiffon dresses, pleated mini-skirts, and stunningly detailed lingerie, to tougher, more masculine and BDSM-like knee-high black lace-up boots, leather biker jackets and studded belts and accessories. You will have mad clothing-envy by the end of the show, that’s for sure!
A sexy, fun and progressively educational time will be had at GRIT, with memorable contemporary dance and acrobatic routines, alluringly dramatic choreography, a fun and flirty host, and a wardrobe of marvelous costumes to envy. GRIT is sure to please, while also prioritising key feminist messages in a cleverly-conceived show.
