NAT’S WHAT I RECKON: UNCOOKED Thursday 24th February @ Royalty Theatre Stage at Royalty Theatre I first became familiar with Nat’s What I Reckon when I came across his highly entertaining YouTube cooking videos during the initial Covid-19 lockdown of 2020. So, I had a good idea of what I was in for with his latest offering, “Uncooked”. The show, starting fashionably late, was preceded by a short stand-up comedy set from up-and-coming, multi-award winning, New Zealand comedian, Rudy-Lee Taurua. Raw and hard hitting, he garnered many laughs from the audience, and was the perfect warm-up act for the night’s sold-out show. But it was Nat, whom everyone was anticipating and he commenced by presenting the “Show Menu” consisting of five segments. He started off with his signature potty-mouthed banter, before getting stuck into my favourite part of the show – cooking! Although, this recipe was not to be taken from his award-winning cookbook. No, he decided to “cook” a Caesar Salad on a Stick using the Tucka F#$%a (more commonly known as a microwave oven), and the strangest cooking contraption ever, The Egg Master. Suffice to say, this was no gourmet meal, but was extremely entertaining to watch being prepared. The segment was followed by a story about the Adversity Donkey and mental health, and his standout takeaway line, when the mind let’s us down, was “Tell ya mind to get f@#$%ed!” The segment “The Truth” was about his research and conspiracy theories regarding the coronavirus and the humble Toyota Camry, which was absolutely hilarious. And to conclude, Nat’s character “Jim”, made an appearance via a short “69 Minutes” video story, dealing with a neighbourly dispute about coffee, and live on-stage, performing a couple of acoustic songs. The night concluded with Nat singing a song about Parmigiana. Overall, this was a highly entertaining comedy show, enhanced by Nat’s signature moves, and his partner’s, Jules’, AV work and graphics. If this show didn’t empower us Champions, to cook good food in the traditional way, at least it left us in laughter. Highly recommended (but mind the swear words).
