Spanning 23 full-dome, VR and interactive experiences presented in unique spaces, Immersive Worlds combines blockbuster-scale spectacle with intimate, transportive storytelling. The program delivers a mix of acclaimed international work including Australian premiers as well as original Australian works.
Audiences are invited to journey through space and science, dive beneath oceans, explore living landscapes and experience art in entirely new dimensions. Opening at Star Theatres, Adelaide Youth Orchestras invites audiences to be part of the performance with The Score: The Smartphone Orchestra an interactive concert where your phone becomes an instrument in a shared, real-time soundscape, blurring the line between audience and conductor.
Designed for every kind of Fringe-goer, the 2026 Immersive Worlds program offers flexible ways to experience Fringe. Drop in for a quick daytime escape, build an itinerary around themed sessions, or go deep with a full night of back-to-back worlds.
Highlights include Monsieur Vincent at Olympic House, a VR journey into Vincent van Gogh’s world, and deep-sea dome adventures including Cuttlefish: Colour & Camouflage (made in South Australia).
Over at Mercury Cinema, audiences can explore Beyond the Milky Way with Prof. Brian Cox, travel through the Kimberley and Antarctica, and dive into the Hitchcock-style interactive thriller Fire Escape by Navid Khonsari, cinematic director at Rockstar on the Grand Theft Auto series.
Adelaide Fringe Acting CEO Tara MacLeod said “Immersive Worlds is one of those Fringe experiences that changes how you feel the moment you step inside. It’s not a single show but a collection of worlds to choose from, spanning full-dome cinema and VR, built for families, first-timers and lifelong Fringe fans.”
Immersive Worlds also introduces a new, easy-to-plan way to do Fringe, particularly for audiences seeking spectacular experiences without committing to late nights. With sessions designed for daylight, early evenings and in-between moments, it’s a weather-proof, high-impact option ideal for families, visitors and anyone looking to experience Fringe differently.
Immersive Worlds is presented by Major Partner NRMA Insurance, with support from Novatech, Electric Dreams and the Government of South Australia.
NRMA Insurance Executive Manager Partnerships and Business Excellence Luke Farrell said “NRMA Insurance is proud to be the Major Partner of Immersive Worlds at Adelaide Fringe in 2026, creating new ways for audiences to engage with the intersection of technology, art and storytelling. As we continue to grow our presence in South Australia, we’re pleased to support an initiative that delivers a high-impact, cultural experience for local communities and visitors to enjoy.”
A limited regional season will also take The Dome, as part of Immersive Worlds to Mount Gambier and Whyalla, supported by Adelaide University and the Drought Relief — Regional Event Fund.
