10 years of Fringe look back

Fri, Jan 23 2026
Over the past decade, Heather’s leadership has delivered seismic change and monumental impact.
Eleven years ago, Heather Croall AM stepped into the role of Director and CEO of Adelaide Fringe at a pivotal moment in the Festival’s history and set about shaping its future.

Under her guidance, Adelaide Fringe grew in scale, ambition and reach, becoming one of the world’s largest open-access arts festivals while strengthening its foundations and deepening its connection to South Australia.

Central to Heather’s vision was a clear belief that Fringe belongs to everyone; artists, audiences, venues, volunteers, partners and the city that holds it. She championed inclusive growth, expanded opportunities for artists, and ensured the Festival remained open, accessible and artist-led, while continuing to evolve in a rapidly changing cultural and economic landscape.

Beyond the headline moments, Heather’s tenure was defined by steady, values-led leadership: navigating complexity, managing risk, supporting artists through challenges, and building enduring partnerships that will continue to shape the Festival for years to come.
As Heather concludes her time as CEO, we look back and celebrate a decade of leadership that has left an indelible mark on Adelaide Fringe.

Thank you, Heather, for your vision, your leadership, and the lasting legacy you leave behind.

Huge thanks to Channel 44 Adelaide for capturing and helping us honour Heather’s incredible legacy
