what if i forget - material close up

what if i forget

what if i forget is a culmination of the artist’s exploration of memory and material. Beka draws inspiration from the wear and debris accumulated over time within her materials and site, referencing the traces of human interaction embedded in objects and spaces, to create a dialogue between environment, material and form. The materiality and methodology of this exhibition speak to the overlap of experiences had on and outside of found materials, as well as the energy inherently held in the materials themselves. The traces of experiences are vital to the aesthetic and conceptual rationale of the work, which explores themes of memory, forgetting, and the act of preserving or holding onto what could be forgotten, ultimately realised through the process of setting/concealing memories in metal.
