In this controversial solo show, you become a jurist in a TRUE CRIME criminal trial! … ‘Trial by Monkey’ is the recreation of a day in court of a real life feminist-activist (and major badass)! … But all done as a TV GAMESHOW! … Hosted by TALKING CHIMPANZEES! … WTF???? It’s bananas it’s nuts and you gotta be there to believe it!
ALL TICKET SALES DONATED to criminal justices non-profits: One Woman Project, Sisters Inside, Flat Out Inc.
“A bold concept that has been cleverly pieced together … McKay is a showman, who plays up to the crowd, involving us and questioning us as the story develops.”

Presented by: ST JOHN MCKAY
New Zealander St. John McKay, writer/director/solo performer of ‘Trial by Monkey’, has lived all over the world — from Argentina to Iceland, Japan to the USA — making work that tackles dark and difficult issues we prefer to look away from, in a quest to turn heads and shift the needle. St. John has had a range of pieces in several international Fringe Festivals, but has been working on the tragic tale of Pauline Campbell for 4 years, calling it a particularly personal work: “When I was a baby my mother went to prison for 6 months, and she’s never told another soul the details of what she calls ‘that time in hell’. Over my strange life I’ve had tiny periods in jail cells myself, in 5 countries … And I can understand why.”
Presented at Melbourne Fringe, Icelandic Fringe, among others.
