Gus the Frog Spits Bars (one man's response to existential dread)
When an unsuspecting marsh frog is plucked from their urban River Torrens home and airlifted into the wilds of the Clare Valley, they realise that their journey back to Adelaide may not be as simple as it seems.
A mysterious curse has infiltrated the soils of the valley. Stringybarks are shrivelling, cellar doors are shutting; vineyards are wilting. And nobody seems to know why.
Can Gus solve the mystery of the curse? Will prosperity be restored to the valley? Will he find his way home? How do I stop this uncontrollable pounding in my chest???!
Audiences can expect a high energy, fun, introspective theatrical experiment that (hopefully) leaves them feeling the weight of the world a little less than when they first arrived.
Presented by: Angus Leighton
Angus Leighton is an actor and theatre-maker with an Advanced Diploma of Acting from the Adelaide College of the Arts. Since graduating Angus has been extensively working across theatre and screen. He has worked in varying capacities with STC SA, Patch Theatre, Slingsby Theatre Company, The PaperBoats Partnership Platform, ActNow Theatre and Melbourne's TheatreWorks.
He has appeared in a smattering of screen roles, including Channel 7’s Wanted, ABC’s Gruen XL and multiple shorts.
Angus has worked extensively with Patch Theatre Company as a performer and maker. He was a key member of the creative team behind ZOOOM!, winning the Independent Arts Foundation Award for Innovation in 2019 and the Ruby Award for Best Work, Event, or Project for Young People in 2021.
