Back in ADL (more Sweet Home Songs)
Saxophonist Fergus Maximus stumbled across an abandoned time machine. Doctor D plugged his Telecaster into it and they were transported into the past!
Join their musical journey through Adelaide’s history with a cast of characters, chancers, heroines and heroes brought to life through original songs in a range of styles: folk, jazz, blues, acoustic rock and pop. Back in ADL showcases brand new material and old favourites from their acclaimed album and sellout Sweet Home Fringe shows. As Doctor D said, ‘History repeats itself. And so do we!’
Walk the beat with pioneering policewoman Annie Ross, brave the chaos of the 1931 beef riot, hear the Holdens roar, help Doctor D rename the city streets, and more. Fun, facts and frivolity. It’s history but not as we know it!

Reviews & Fringefeed Reacts
A fine collection of Adelaide songs written by people who clearly love the place - Michael Coglan, The Clothesline Digital Arts Magazine
A magnificent piece of music - Steve Davis, The Adelaide Show podcast
Presented by: Sweet Songs
Guitarist Doctor D and saxophonist-vocalist-storyteller Fergus Maximus are award-winning songwriters based in Adelaide. They first worked together in the sell-out Adelaide 2021 Fringe Show SWT_HM_ADL, followed by Sweet Home SA and Sweet Home Songs in subsequent years.
With amiable on-stage personalities and engaging storytelling, they continue to delight audiences with their music, a fusion of blues-rock, alt-folk, pop, rock and jazz, with lyrics that range from deeply reflective and emotional to hilarious and gleefully absurd.
For these shows, Fergus and Doctor D are delighted to be accompanied by the wonderful singer/songwriter Marta Bayly (The Good Questions, Andy & Marta) whose beautiful backing vocals elevate their acclaimed debut album Back in ADL.
