A Fractured World
This exhibition has been inspired by beauty in imperfections, the fracture or flaw that is worked around. They wish to embrace and celebrate the “imperfect” with stitch, felt & weaving. Mending usually means repairing something to function as it did in the past. What if the mending creates something that is beautiful? The art of Kintsugi embodies this concept. For the Japanese it’s a part of a broader philosophy of embracing the human flaws. This Japanese tradition highlights imperfections rather than hiding them. It not only teaches calm when a cherished piece of pottery breaks, but is a reminder of the beauty of human fragility as well. With our needles and thread, we have attempted to mend and highlight our fractured world.
