Decadence and Debauchery is a show that delivered an experience that I totally wasn’t expecting. Yes, the decadence was there, as for the debauchery though, replace that word with FUN and that’s pretty much what you get. But Decadence and Fun doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. On the night I attended, the sold-out crowd got to witness a wide variety of acts: a bit of burlesque, some Bollywood dance, singing, cabaret, and feather and fan dancing… lots and lots of it!
With a rotating cast of performers each night, seedoeatreview can reveal everything that happened on the night because no show is ever the same. Hosted by the fabulous Frankie McNaire, the ground rules were clearly laid out “Cheer loudly and often!”. It seems like simple enough instructions to follow but, as I’ve witnessed with other Fringe acts, sometimes the audience doesn’t adhere to this. No problem with this crowd though, as Kelly Ann Doll started the show with her own brand of hilarious burlesque. I love how she doesn’t take herself too seriously with her performances and always makes sure the crowd is included. In this instance, an audience member received a lap dance from the delightful Miss Doll and seemed to revel in the moment. Next up was the first of three performances from the Fabulous Fan Dancers. We were treated to an explosion of colour and flair, as they danced, shimmied, and shook their way all over the Nineteen Ten stage. Interwoven through fan and feather dancing was a cabaret/burlesque performance by the Circus Songstress and Artemis Seven (the slowed-down Beyonce number was an absolute treat), an energy-packed Bollywood dance from PM Gras, a cheeky display of burlesque from Sara Martini, and a heated performance of dance, striptease and fire eating by ever the show-stealer Jazida.
Jazida Productions shows are always a good time, and although the title of the show may be slightly misleading, the frivolous fun, laughs and energy for Decadence and Debauchery is an absolute joy to be a part of, Enjoy!
