Celebrating their 15th year of performing at the Adelaide Fringe, Faulty Towers The Dining Experience is still going strong. Not only are they celebrating this milestone in 2022, but also two other milestones: 10 years of the show being performed on London’s West End; and Interactive Theatre International’s 25th birthday. This year, Faulty Towers has taken up residence at The Terrace Hotel on South Terrace. If you have never experienced Faulty Towers The Dining Experience, you are missing out on a gem of a show. Based around the characters from the much loved TV show Fawlty Towers, Faulty Towers The Dining Experience works perfectly as a dinner-theatre show. From the moment you arrive, you are immersed into the chaotic world of the Faulty’s and the misunderstood, underdog waiter, Manuel. The audience are guests in the dining room of the Faulty Towers Hotel and the events unfold around you, while you enjoy a 1970’s-inspired 3-course meal. The magic of this show isn’t just in the sketches throughout the night, it’s the interaction with the audience between them as the meals are served. You never know what will happen next. The banter between the cast and the audience never misses a beat. For their 15th year of the Fringe, Faulty Towers The Dining Experience features Monique Lewis Reynolds as Sybil, Jack Newall as Basil and Nicholas Richard as Manuel. The team works seamlessly together. Each actor captures the little nuances of the iconic characters perfectly, from Basil’s disapproving beady-eyed stares to his sudden change of tack when caught out, to Sybil’s grating laugh and flirty mannerisms with the male guests, to Manuel’s misunderstanding of the English language and his constant abuse from Basil – this cast emulate everything with text-book perfection. You get so swept up in their antics you forget they are not the original actors who brought these characters to life. Whether you are a Fawlty Towers tragic like myself, or just looking for a fantastic night out that will leave your cheeks hurting from laughter, Faulty Towers The Dining Experience is a ‘must see’ on your 2022 Adelaide Fringe list.
