Tracks Through Weaving

South Australia

Basketry is an age old craft used in many cultures past and present.

Its utilitarian uses provide for carrying, catching and storing food, and building shelter.

With increasing awareness of the importance of the well-being of the environment and the human race there has been a resurgence in the appreciation of the ancient crafts, including basketry, as a way to tread more lightly on the planet.

Basketry SA Members' exhibition, 'Tracks Through Weaving', brings together all the strands of experience, skill and creative energy of each member by developing their own unique style, tracking through the discovery of the potential of natural and recycled materials, interacting and learning from each other and the wider world of weaving in other cultures, countries, and through time.

Exhibition Opening: Saturday 15th February at 1pm.

Presented by: Basketry SA

Basketry SA came together as a group in 1981 and the members embrace a rich legacy of basketry knowledge and techniques with enthusiasm keeping the craft/art alive. They use traditional methods, including those of ethnic and indigenous cultures reflecting the love of the handmade, in a contemporary way to create both practical baskets and sculptural forms.
